One of the three servants of Atropos, and thought to be her most favoured as her primary title is Queen of the Shadows.

[edit] Description

Shadows are shadows. From what has been encountered of them so far, there are two types: animated shadows, who are nothing more than shadow elementals, just as a fire elemental is just animated fire; and true shadows, who are intelligent beings (possibly a race in their own right) and not belonging to any being. They all appear to be semi-insubstantial.

[edit] Strength/Weaknesses

Animated shadows retain a connection with the thing whose shadow they were. Damage done to the animated shadow damages that being, and animated shadows have been used to place spells on their 'host'. Once a shadow has been animated, it can disconnect from its host and travel anywhere - the host will not have a shadow anymore.

Both types of shadows find their strength wax and wane based on the light. Shadows are accordingly strongest at dawn and dusk. When separated from their host, shadows can be damaged by light without damage to their host, however, should anything else (even another shadow) come between a shadow and light, it only strengthens them. The only clear way to defeat shadows is to put them in complete darkness.

[edit] Appearance in History

Shadows were summoned and acted as servants and apparently close friends with the Axilroth and Etruri for many years. Some Axilroth began to doubt them, however, and those who still liked them (along with the Etruri) made their way south to New Myzoria. En route, the shadows turned on them and were, as a result, banished into the Dreaming. They remained there until disturbed by the Gralans in the Expedition to New Myzoria.
